Some of the most effective therapy and long term growth can come from from family counseling. We are all a part of a larger system and it can be difficult to change one individual’s experience without working on the system as a whole. We will work to understand your family’s dynamics and identify where breakdowns may be happening. Together we will work to create a family system that works well for each family member, despite who was the original identified patient. Change is expected from each family member in order to correct maladaptive patterns of interaction.
One of the most important therapy goals we have in working with you and significant other is make you both feel validated and heard, regardless of who is “right.” We understand that patterns of a couple's behavior is a cycle and is not something that came to be overnight. In counseling, we want to help you each identify your room for growth while simultaneously ensuring you feel understood and not blamed. Things we would work on could include communication, emotion regulation, reigniting your spark, sexual issues, infidelity, navigating divorce/end of a relationship, co-parenting, or any other goal you may have.
We have treated married, unmarried, cohabiting, and dating couples. More specifically, we have worked with LGBTQ+ couples, interracial couples, and polyamorous relationships.
